Bibb County Sheriff’s Office deputies answered a call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 1100 Block of Gray Highway near Dairy Queen, just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
It was reported that a 1995 Buick Roadmaster driven by 28-year-old Eddie Hawkins was traveling northbound on Gray Highway when he struck a male who was walking in the center turning lane.
The male, later identified as 62-year-old Walter Barnes Jr., was transported by ambulance to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The victim information will be released once next of kin has been notified
The accident is currently being investigated and no charges have been filed at this time. Anyone with information about this accident is asked to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.
