Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a person shot call at the Rosa Jackson Park, located at 1211 Maynard Street on April 1, 2019 just after 2:00pm. Upon arrival deputies found 19 year-old David Lanell Verner, of Macon with a gunshot injury to his left hand.

While talking to 18 year-old Daquarius Laquan Clark, who was with Verner, it was determined that they Clark had given Verner a handgun. While Verner was looking at the gun he accidently shot himself in the hand. The gun was then hidden in the men’s rest room of the recreation center before they called 911. Clark had originally told deputies that an unknown suspect shot Verner and drove off in a car.

Deputies recovered the firearm and it was discovered that the gun was stolen out of Bibb County on March 11, 2019.

Verner was taken to the Navicent Health Medical Center for treatment and has been released.

Clark was arrested and taken to the Bibb County Jail. He was charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of Firearm within Thousand Feet of Park and Giving False Statements. Clark is being held on a bond of $12,740.00 at this time.
