Bibb County Sheriff’s Office fatality investigators are investigating a  traffic accident with serious injury that occurred on I-475 at the Tucker Road overpass .

The accident occurred just before 11:43 p.m. Sunday night. It was reported that a 2012 Ford Explorer driven by 26-year-old Juan Perez was towing a Jeep Wrangler when his vehicle, the Explorer, suffered a tire blow out. The Explorer went out of control and came to rest blocking the center and right lane.

A Mercedes driven by Kadija Williams of Florida attempted  to avoid Perez, but spun and hit the left side median barrier wall. The passenger of the Mercedes, 31-year-old Sammie Louis Edwards Jr. was outside of the vehicle checking on the Explorer driver Juan Perez ,when a Cadillac Escalade driven by 27-year-old Francisco Gomez of Tifton, Ga., attempted to avoid  hitting  the Explorer and Jeep. Mr. Edwards was then hit by the Escalade and was pinned under the Escalade.

He was seriously injured and transported by ambulance to the Navicent Health hospital. Edwards is listed in critical condition. No one else was seriously  injured in this incident.
