The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit was called to a residence in the 700 block of Thurmond Drive to assist the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force on Tuesday morning. Members of the task force were serving several arrest warrants on 42-year-old Joseph Benjamin Griffin II. As the arrest warrants were being served, task force members discovered that Griffin was attempting to flush a large quantity of marijuana down the toilet. Task Force members immediately contacted the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit in reference to their findings.

Special Investigations Unit members arrived at the residence and received consent to search the residence and Griffin’s rental vehicle. Investigators seized approximately 47 pounds of marijuana from inside of the residence. Investigators then searched Griffin’s rental vehicle and located additional bags of prepackaged marijuana, a handgun, and $12,600.00 in cash.

Griffin was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Complex. Griffin was arrested for the warrants that were served by the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task for the charges of (2) counts of Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, , Alcohol Offense, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission to Commit Certain Felonies, Fleeing or Eluding a Police Officer-Felony, (3) counts of Traffic/Motor Vehicle offenses, Aggressive Driving, and Griffin had a Probation Violation-Felony charge.

Bibb County Sheriff’s Special Investigations Unit Investigators had warrants issued on Griffin from their investigation into today’s incident, for the charges of Trafficking Marijuana, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

Joseph Benjamin Griffin II is currently being held in the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, without bond.
