The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the citizens who are traveling in areas near Central City Park should expect heavy traffic congestion, possibly starting at around 12 noon on Friday and continuing throughout the night.
The following streets will be affected:
Riverside Drive, (south of Spring Street)
Emery Highway
Coliseum Drive
Martin Luther King Blvd., (south of Poplar Street)
Hazel Street
Seventh Street
Walnut Street
I-16 at Spring Street
I-16 at Coliseum Drive
Also, the I-75/I-16 interchanges.
The only entrance into the park will be from Walnut Street at Seventh Street.
Traffic coming from the North/Northeast sides of the park, such as (Riverside Drive, Emery Highway, Coliseum Drive, Spring Street, and I-16) is going to be routed down Walnut Street, towards Central City Park.
Coliseum Drive and Riverside Drive traffic that is going to the park will also be sent down Walnut Street
All traffic coming from the South/Southwest sides of the park, such as (Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Eisenhower Parkway, Mercer University Drive, and I-75) is going to be routed down Hazel Street, or Poplar Street to Seventh Street. From Seventh Street traffic will be directed towards Walnut Street to get into the park.
The area of Riverside @ Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd will be blocked going towards the park. Traffic will not be allowed into the park, south of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., from this intersection.
