The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal accident, involving a pedestrian that occurred in the parking lot of the Tom’s Mart, located at 4381 Mercer University Drive. The accident was reported to the Macon-Bibb 911 Center at around 9:26 p.m.
Witnesses stated that a male was riding with two other individuals to the Tom’s Mart. The driver of the vehicle stopped in the parking lot. The male got out of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle decided to pull into a parking space. The male thought that the driver was leaving him behind. As the driver pulled forward, the male ran back towards the vehicle, attempted to open the rear door, stumbled, and then fell under the vehicle. The vehicle rolled over the male. The male later died from the accident.
This accident is under investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available. There are no charges pending at this time.
The name of the victim will not be released until the next of kin has been notified.
