Bibb County Sheriff’s Office deputies and investigators were called to the Coliseum Northside Hospital emergency room for an unresponsive infant on Wednesday, February 24, 2021.

It was stated that a one-year-old male infant was taken to the hospital by his mother and her roommate/boyfriend after noticing that the infant became unresponsive. After arriving at the hospital emergency room, the infant, Jayce Gibson, was pronounced deceased. The cause of death could not be determined at that time, and an autopsy was scheduled for Monday, March 1, 2021, at the G.B.I. Medical Examiner’s Office.

On Monday, Bibb County Sheriff’s Office investigators were notified of the results from the preliminary examination. The results showed that Jayce did not die of natural causes; he suffered head trauma. During the course of the investigation, information was provided that led to the arrest of the boyfriend.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office located the boyfriend at a family residence in Sandersville, Georgia. He was taken into custody and transported to Bibb County.

The boyfriend, 19-year-old Jamarius Khalil Dixon, is currently being held in the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, without bond, for the charges of Murder and Cruelty to Children in the First Degree. This investigation is ongoing and no further information can be released at this time.
