At around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night an Inmate was being taken from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Detention Center, located on Hawthorne Street, to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, located across the street, for a medical issue. A Bibb County Deputy from the detention center was escorting the inmate at the time. The inmate, 30 year old Sharod Spivey suddenly broke away and ran once they were outside the detention center. He was handcuffed at the time he ran. Spivey was being held on theft charges.
A lookout was immediately given out and several deputies responded to search for Spivey, expanding their search out several blocks. While searching in the 700 block of Liberty Street, Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies spotted Spivey and he was captured without incident just after 10:00 p.m. He was transported back to the Law Enforcement Center.
An internal investigation is being conducted on the incident by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Division.
