The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal single vehicle collision that took place in the 7100 block of Thomaston Road. The collision was called into the Macon-Bibb 911 Center at 4:46p.m. on Monday.

It was reported that a truck had a tire blow out and the driver lost control. The truck went off of the roadway, rolled over, and went down a steep embankment. The driver, 46-year-old DeWayne Gibson, was taken to the Atrium Health Navicent, by ambulance. Gibson is currently listed to be in critical, but stable condition.

The passenger, 25-year-old Summer Nicole Bennett, who was also in the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to Deputy Coroner Luanne Stone, the next of kin has been notified.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to the Atrium Health Navicent, by ambulance and is listed to be in critical condition. A passenger, who was also in the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The names of the driver and the deceased passenger will not be released until the next of kin has been contacted.
