The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Hawkinsville Road, at its intersection with Cochran Field Road. The collision was called into the Macon-Bibb 911 Center at 4:59 p.m.
According to witness statements, a white colored Honda Accord, driven by 57-year-old Tommy Keith Smith of Jones County, pulled out from Cochran Field Road and attempted to cross over Hawkinsville Road. Smith’s vehicle was headed towards the northbound lanes of travel.
A black colored Acura RSX, driven by 20-year-old William Noah Jones of Macon, was headed south on Hawkinsville Road and collided with Smith’s Honda. During the collision, both vehicles rolled over and ended up in the median.
Both Smith and Jones were pronounced deceased at the scene. According to Coroner Leon Jones, the next of kin has been notified.

Fatal Traffic Collision on Hawkinsville Road
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Hawkinsville Road, at its intersection with Cochran Field Road. The collision was called into the Macon-Bibb 911 Center at 4:59 p.m.
According to witness statements, a white colored vehicle pulled out from Cochran Field Road and attempted to cross over Hawkinsville Road. The vehicle was headed towards the northbound lanes of travel. A black colored vehicle was headed south on Hawkinsville Road and collided with the white vehicle. During the collision, both vehicles rolled over and ended up in the median.
The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced deceased at the scene by Coroner Leon Jones. The names of the drivers will not be released until the next of kin has been notified.
