The pedestrian fatally injured in the traffic accident this afternoon on Eisenhower Parkway was identified as 58 year old Ronnie Nelson, from Macon. The next of kin was notified by the Bibb County Coroner’s Office.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal traffic accident involving a pedestrian that occurred on Eisenhower Parkway just west of Second Street this afternoon. Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the accident just before 4:00p.m.

It was reported that a 58 year old male was crossing the westbound lanes of Eisenhower Parkway in a northern direction. As the pedestrian stepped up onto the curb, it appeared that he lost his balance, stumbling backwards. He continued in a backward motion, falling into the right westbound lane. A 2006 Honda Accord, driven by 61 year old Ernistine Wimberly of Macon, was traveling west in the right westbound lane of Eisenhower Parkway. Wimberly struck the pedestrian as he fell back into the right lane.

The pedestrian was transported to the Navicent Health Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The name of the pedestrian will be released once the next of kin has been notified.

The accident is currently under investigation and charges are pending the completion of the investigation. Anyone with information in reference to this accident is urged to contact the Bibb Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.
