The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal pedestrian hit and run that was called into the Macon-Bibb 911 Center at 6:39 a.m. Thursday.
It was reported that a white male was struck while crossing the street in the 1400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The male, 49-year-old Shawn Smith of Macon, was struck by an unknown vehicle that left the scene. Two other vehicles that were traveling behind the first vehicle were also involved in the collision. The drivers of the second and third vehicles remained at the collision scene.
Smith was transported to the Atrium Navicent Health and was later pronounced deceased. According to the Deputy Coroner Luann Stone, the next of kin has been notified.

Fatal Pedestrian Involved Hit and Run on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal pedestrian hit and run that was called into the Macon-Bibb 911 Center at 6:39 a.m. Thursday.
It was reported that an unknown white male was struck, while crossing the street in the 1400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The male was struck by an unknown vehicle that left the scene. Two other vehicles that were traveling behind the first vehicle, were also involved in the collision. The drivers of the second and third vehicles remained at the collision scene.
The male victim was transported to the Atrium Navicent Health and was later pronounced deceased. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office are attempting to identify the male so that they can contact the next of kin.
