According to Coroner Leon Jones, 20-year-old Ha’Keem Romaire Barrett passed away at 5:57 a.m. Tuesday morning.
While in jail for Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault charges, Barrett was taken to the Atrium Health Navicent for a medical issue. While receiving care at the hospital, Barrett escaped custody and fled on Friday, February 4, 2022 at around 4:00 p.m.
On Sunday, February 6, 2022, at 6:47 a.m., Barrett showed up at his sister’s home and had a medical emergency. The sister immediately contacted the Macon-Bibb 911 Center. Barrett was transported to the hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
Coroner Leon Jones stated that Barrett was pronounced deceased on Tuesday morning, and the next of kin has been notified.

The Corrections deputy that was watching Barrett at the hospital was placed on administrative leave on February 5, 2022, pending an internal investigation.

Escaped Inmate in Custody
Escaped inmate, Ha’Keem Romaire Barrett, was located Sunday morning and is currently receiving medical treatment.
The Macon-Bibb 911 Center received a call from Barrett’s sister at 6:47a.m., Sunday morning. Investigators have determined that Barrett showed up at his sister’s home on Bloomfield Road in civilian clothes and was reported to be sick. Soon after arriving at his sister’s residence, Barrett became unresponsive and she contacted the Macon-Bibb 911 Center.
EMS and Bibb deputies responded and Barrett was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Barrett is currently listed to be in critical condition.

Inmate Fled from Hospital
A Bibb County Sheriff’s Office inmate fled from the Atrium Health Navicent on Friday at around 4:00 p.m.
It was reported that 20-year-old Ha’Keem Romaire Barrett was at the Atrium Hospital for a medical issue. Barrett became sick while in his hospital room. While using the restroom, Barrett climbed through the ceiling and made his way to an adjacent hallway. Barrett fled from the hospital and was last seen running towards High Street.
Barrett is described as a black male with a “dreadlock” hairstyle. He is around five feet ten inches in height, and he weighs approximately 175 lbs. He was last seen wearing a white “long john” shirt, white boxers shorts, and white socks.
Barrett was in jail for Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault charges. Additional charges will be issued in reference to Barrett fleeing from the hospital.
