Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a fleeing suspect after a brief vehicle pursuit. It was reported that Bibb Sheriff’s Deputy Craig Lewis initiated a traffic stop on a silver Honda Accord at 8:29 pm. on Peter Street.

The driver of the Honda refused to stop, leading Deputy Lewis on a brief vehicle pursuit. The pursuit ended on Fairmont Street near Melrose Street. The suspect identified as 38 year old, Wallace Griffin slammed on brakes and ran from the vehicle. Deputy Lewis and Deputy Alex Fletcher gave chase and were attempting to detain Griffin. As deputies were detaining Griffin two citizens yelled to them that the vehicle was not in park. Griffin vehicle rolled back over the legs of Deputy Lewis who was on top of Griffin. The two citizens helped Deputy Fletcher push the vehicle off Deputy Lewis and Griffin. Once Griffin was removed from under the vehicle he continued to fight Deputy Fletcher and was detained with the help of two more deputies that arrived on scene.   Deputy Lewis was transported by ambulance to the Navicent hospital with injuries to his left leg and Griffin was transported to the Navicent to be evaluated for injury. Both of their injuries are non-life threating. Deputies seized two large bags of cocaine from Wallace during this incident

Wallace was released from the hospital and transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. Wallace was charged with possession of cocaine, aggravated assault against a law-enforcement officer,   attempting to elude law-enforcement, Willful obstruction of law-enforcement officers, driving without a valid license, traffic vehicle offense and probation violation. He is being healed on a $41,310.00 bond.

Deputy Craig Lewis was released from the hospital  and is reported to be doing well.
