Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies made an arrest on a theft incident that occurred at around 8:30 a.m. this morning at the Greyhound Bus Station located at 65 Spring Street.
It was reported that the suspect, later identified as 21 year old James Thompson, of Michigan, approached the 53 year old victim outside the bus station and asked if he had a vehicle. The victim told Thompson no, he did not have a vehicle. The victim also reported that the Thompson walked over to several vehicles, pulling on door handles as if to see if the doors were unlocked. Thompson came back over to the victim again and asked about a vehicle again and the victim said he had no vehicle. Thompson reached down and grabbed an envelope that was on top of a bag lying on the ground that belonged to the victim and fled on foot.
While responding to the call, Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies received information that the suspect involved in the theft was running north on Spring Street towards Gray Highway. Deputies caught up to Thompson at the intersection of Gray Highway and Clinton Road near Second Street and apprehended him. When Thompson was apprehended he resisted, fighting with the deputies.
Thompson was transported to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigative Division where he was questioned by investigators. He was charged with 1 count of theft by taking, 2 counts of criminal damage to property, 1 count of obstruction and 1 count of escape. He was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Complex and booked on the charges. Bond was denied.
