Several Bibb County Sheriff’s Office investigators were in the parking lot of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Annex, Thursday night, when they heard several gun shots being fired from a homeless camp. The camp is located across from Riverside Drive, behind the Sheriff’s Office Annex building. The investigators headed towards the camp noticed two males getting into a vehicle, that was parked at the entrance of the camp. The males left the area and headed down Third Street, towards Walnut Street. Patrol deputies, that were in the area, were alerted of the incident and located the vehicle on Walnut Street, near Spring Street.
The Investigators checked on the homeless people that were camping in that area and discovered that a male was slightly grazed on the leg, possibly by a ricochet. The injured male stated that he did not want any medical attention.
The patrol deputies that stopped the vehicle identified the two occupants as 53-year-old Ricky Bernard Veal and 64-year-old Larry Tarver. During the traffic stop, two handguns were found inside of the vehicle. Veal and Tarver were taken to the Investigations Division to be interviewed about the incident. After the interview, both men were transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. Ricky Bernard Veal and Larry Tarver were both charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault and are currently being held without bond.
This incident is under investigation. Anyone with information in reference to this incident is urged to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
