Just before 1:30AM this morning a Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputy was westbound on Shurling Drive when he observed a vehicle, traveling eastbound on Shurling Drive in excess of the posted speed limit. The deputy turned around to make a traffic stop on the driver of the vehicle for the speeding violation. As the deputy caught up to the vehicle he turned on his blue lights to make the traffic stop. The vehicle identified as a 2000 Lincoln LS continued eastbound on Shurling Drive and appeared to be speeding up. The deputy continued in attempts to get the driver of the Lincoln to stop.
The Lincoln continued eastbound on Shurling Drive into Jones County. The deputy had the Macon-Bibb 911 Dispatcher to notify the Jones County Sheriff’s Office. The Lincoln turned around and headed back westbound on Shurling Drive back into Bibb County, still refusing to stop. The driver of the Lincoln lost control of the vehicle on Shurling Drive at New Clinton Road and struck a utility pole.
Fire Rescue and Emergency Medical Services were notified. The deputy quickly got out of his vehicle and approached the Lincoln to render aid until medical assistance arrived. The driver and passenger, both males were trapped in the vehicle and were extracted once Fire Rescue came on the scene. Both were taken to the Navicent Health to be treated for injuries. Their names and condition is not known at this time.
