On March 27, 2019 just before 11:00pm Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies were patrolling the area of Houston Avenue and Giles Street when they saw a black male texting and driving. They conducted a traffic stop on the Volvo 940 that he was driving.
While deputies were talking to the passenger of the vehicle, 24 year-old Konner Ladarren Newton he kept looking down at the floor board. Deputies had him step out and checked him for weapons and that is when he informed deputies that he had gun under the seat. Newton was detained and placed in the patrol car.
The driver, 23 year-old Michael Dangelo Sands was told to get out of the car and stand with a deputy while the car was searched. Deputies found four guns under the seats of the vehicle along with two clear bags of Ecstasy pills.
Sands was placed in the patrol car. Both Sands and Newton were arrested and taken to the Bibb County Jail.
Sands was charged with two counts of Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony, Possession of Schedule I or II Controlled Substance and Texting While Driving. He is being held on a $22,860.00 bond at this time.
Newton was charged with two counts of Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony and Possession of Schedule I or II Controlled Substance.
