On January 2, 2020, at 02:00 a.m. Bibb County Sheriff’s Office deputies were riding on Poplar Street near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when they witnessed a Dodge Charger without its lights on.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.  As the driver was pulling over, he was seen leaning over to the passenger seat with his arm extended towards the passenger. Deputies made contact with the driver, 29-year-old Alvin Dewon Sanford Jr., of Macon. While talking to Sandford deputies noticed an open Bud Light and could smell a strong odor of Marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and located a Smith & Wesson pistol under the seat. Both Sanford and his passenger, 27-year-old Karesha Tenae Williams, of Macon, denied ownership of the gun, which was reported stolen in 2017.

Sanford was taken to the Bibb County Jail and charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance and Possession of Marijuana Less than an Ounce. He is being held on a $23,135.00 bond at this time.

Williams was taken to the Bibb County Jail and charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance and Marijuana Possession less than an Ounce. She was released on a $15,435.00 bond on January 2, 2020. Deputies located the drugs hidden in Williams’ groin area and were informed that Sanford had her hide them as they were being stopped.
