On August 15, 2015 just before 05:00pm Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies were patrolling on Evergreen Drive, near Hightower Rd, when a suspect was spotted firing a handgun from the inside of a maroon colored Ford Crown Victoria. The suspect fled the area in the Crown Victoria as the deputies approached.
The suspect led deputies on a pursuit, from the Houston Avenue area through several side streets, to Broadway. Once the suspect reached Broadway, he headed south to towards the Macon Airport. The suspect traveled through the Industrial Park area and to Industrial Highway. He made a right turn onto Industrial Highway and traveled north towards Hawkinsville Road.
The suspect headed north on Hawkinsville Road and back towards the area where the pursuit originated. He abandoned the vehicle between two buildings, just off Houston Avenue, on Richmond Street.
The suspect fled the area on foot, but later turned himself over to Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies at the District 2 Office. The suspect was identified as 35 year old Artez Leshawn Maloy of Macon.
Maloy was charged with Reckless Conduct, Reckless Driving and Felony Fleeing and Eluding of Peace Officer. He also had unrelated warrants for the charges of Theft by Conversion and Child Cruelty in the 1st Degree. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office also has a warrant for Maloy’s arrest, from an unrelated incident. Maloy is being held on $17,400.00 bond at the Bibb County Jail. No one was injured during this incident.
