The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed robbery and kidnapping that took place just after 9:00P.M Monday evening at the Roadway Inn, located at 4952 Romeiser Dr. It was reported that 21yr old Cody Berkner of Jones County had gone to the Roadway Inn to meet 20yr old India Denise Summers of Macon. When he arrived he was held at gunpoint and forced in to the back of his car by 29yr old Raul Sanchez. Sanchez and Summers took him to multiple locations and took money out of his bank account. While they were traveling west on Hartley Bridge Rd Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to stop the 2001 Toyota Celica that belonged to Berkner for defective equipment. Sanchez failed to stop and lead deputies on a chase ending on Romeiser Dr. where Sanchez fled on foot but was apprehended. Two deputies received leg injuries while chasing Sanchez due to the terrain and were taken to the Navicent Health Medical Center to be treated for the injuries.
Raul Sanchez was taken to the Bibb County Jail and charged with two outstanding warrants for armed robbery and criminal attempt to commit armed. He was also charged with armed robbery, kidnapping. India Summers was taken to the Bibb County Jail and charged with armed robbery and kidnapping.
