Bibb County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies arrested a Macon man for a home invasion this morning. Deputies were dispatched to the West Macon home of Bibb County Commissioner Virgil Watkins at 08:20 a.m.

It was reported that Commissioner Watkins was in his home asleep when the suspect kicked in the front door and started taking items. The suspect fled the scene on foot after he pulled a gun on Watkins. Watkins then called 911 and was able to give a description of the suspect.

While on the way to the scene deputies spotted the suspect running on Eisenhower Parkway near Key Street. During the chase the suspect had taken his pants off, leaving on a pair of shorts. The suspect attempted to hide from deputies and dropped the evidence that was taken from the home invasion.
The suspect jumped several fences and ran into a briar patch near Keystone Street. Deputies were able to apprehend 18-year-old Xavier Matthew Lewis, of Macon, without incident. Lewis was taken to the Bibb Sheriff’s Annex building, to the investigations office for questioning.

During questioning it was determined that Lewis had also been involved in an armed robbery that happened on May 24, 2019, just before 5:00 p.m…. Lewis had approached the back of Lou’s Grub Shack, a food truck that was parked in front of 3342 Mercer University Drive. Lewis brandished a pistol and demanded money from the two employees working in the truck. When one of the employees grabbed their firearm, Lewis fired one shot and then ran off without getting anything. No one was injured during either incident.

Lewis was taken to the Bibb County Jail and is being charged with Home Invasion, Armed Robbery, and Aggravated Assault. He is being held without bond at this time. Additional charges pending further investigation.
