Sheriff David Davis and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office established an award recognizing deserving middle and high school students. The B.E.A.M. (Being Elevated And Motivated) Award recognizes selected scholars who exemplify self-discipline, leadership, positive attitudes, good grades, kindness, and integrity at school, home, and in the community.

On December 1, 2023, Sheriff Davis and members of the sheriff’s office Outreach Section presented the inaugural awards to two students. The students who received the awards are Tyrianna Anderson, a senior at Central High School, and William Barnes, a Junior at Northeast High School.

The BEAM award stemmed from an idea Bibb Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Sahkera Wooten and Lt. Linda Howard had to recognize young people who are engaged in favorable activities and who are productively engaged in our community. This recognition seeks to counter the stories that are often publicized about teenagers being involved in criminal or disruptive actions.

Bibb Sheriff David Davis said, “There are more good students making a positive impact in their schools and in our community than there are those who wish to disrupt our society. I am proud to recognize these exemplary students today and we look forward to recognizing more in the months to come.”

The Sheriff’s office is accepting nominations from principals, teachers, school counselors, or other school leaders for future honorees. Those wishing to nominate a student may do so by sending their nomination to SWooten@maconbibb.us or LHoward2@maconbibb.us
