The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a robbery by snatching that took place around 2:30pm, Thursday afternoon at 5080 Riverside Drive, the Shoppes At River Crossing. It was reported that a 54 year old female was crossing from the parking lot to go shopping when a black male drove by and snatched her pocketbook from her and drove away onto Riverside Drive towards Monroe County, in a brown Ford Focus. The deputies were able to track the victim’s phone.
Bibb Sheriff’s Deputies spotted the suspect’s vehicle on Montpelier Avenue at Pansy Avenue and attempted to stop it. The suspect fled down Montpelier Avenue, but was unable to escape from the deputies. He was stopped and arrested at the corner of Montpelier Avenue at Bailey Avenue.
The suspect was identified as Fitzgerald Wilder, a 50 year old black male of Macon, he was charged with robbery by snatching, reckless driving, driving while unlicensed, and fleeing and eluding police. He was transported to the Bibb Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division before being booked into the Bibb County Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Center. The victim was not injured during the robbery.
