Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies are rerouting traffic on Houston Avenue between Hightower Road, south to Cleveland Street due to a damaged utility pole. Georgia power is on the scene repairing the pole to restore power.
Just before 12:30 a.m. Friday morning, Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to an accident with injury. It was reported that the driver of a 2003 Ford F250 Pickup, 23 year old Garret Head of Macon, was traveling north on Houston Avenue near Hanson Street. He told deputies he swerved to miss a vehicle traveling over into his lane in the opposite direction of Houston Avenue. Head’s vehicle went off the road, striking the utility pole. No other vehicle or driver was at the scene when deputies arrived.
Head stated he was not injured and refused any medical assistance. He was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center and charged with Driving under the Influence of Alcohol. He has a bond of $1,850.00.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is urging all motorists to avoid the area of Houston Avenue between Hightower Road and Cleveland Street. As of 5:00 a.m. we were told this section of Houston Avenue is expected to be closed for 3 to 4 hours according to Georgia Power. We will update you on information of the streets reopening as we receive it.
