Involuntary Manslaughter Investigation
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an Involuntary Manslaughter.
The incident occurred on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at BJ’s Billiards, located at 430 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at 11:53 p.m. According to witnesses, 54-year-old Larry Liggins and another male were involved in a physical altercation, while inside the establishment. During the altercation, the male punched Liggins causing him to fall back and hit his head against a wooden pillar. The other male left the business as deputies and paramedics were called to the scene.
When deputies and paramedics arrived at the establishment, they found Liggins unresponsive, but breathing. Patrol deputies interviewed patrons at the business, but no one knew the identity of the second male. Liggins was transported to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment. Bibb County Sheriff’s Office investigators received an update on Monday regarding Liggins’ status. His situation had progressed and he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit, where he was listed in critical condition.
Investigators identified the second male involved in the altercation and issued warrants for his arrest. Investigators issued warrants for 30-year-old Justin Antryon Collins, on the charge of Aggravated Battery. On Tuesday afternoon, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says Liggins passed away at 12:33 p.m. The next of kin has been notified.
After Liggins passed away, investigators upgraded the warrant from Aggravated Battery to Involuntary Manslaughter. A photograph of Justin Collins is attached to this media release.
This incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information of the whereabouts of Collins, or information about the incident are urged to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
