The Bibb Sheriff’s Office, along with the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department, responded to Frank Amerson Park, 2600 Riverview Road, at the Ocmulgee River regarding a drowning just after 4:30 p.m.
A witness stated that there was a male that was seen in the water that went under, and appeared to be having trouble swimming. The male later identified as, 18-year-old Kevin Gillens, was reported to have gone underwater. The witness was not able to locate him, and called 911 to report the incident. The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department dive team, Georgia State Patrol helicopters and the Department of Natural Resources are on the scene assisting with the search.
The Gillens family has been notified of the incident.
