The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a pedestrian-involved fatal collision. The incident was called into the Macon-Bibb Emergency-911 Center at 1:39 a.m., Thursday morning.

Deputies responded to Irwinton Road in response to a male unresponsive in the roadway, near Hitchcock Road. When deputies arrived in the area, a pedestrian was located lying along the fog line of the road. The pedestrian had succumbed to injury. Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley pronounced the male deceased on the scene. The pedestrian has not been identified.

Investigators determined that the pedestrian appeared to have been struck by a motor vehicle. The driver of the vehicle did not return to the scene to report the incident. The driver and vehicle are unknown at this time.

The pedestrian is described as a black male, five foot seven to five foot eight in height, slender, weighing from one hundred fifty to one hundred sixty pounds, and is aged between fifty and sixty years old.

According to Coroner Lonnie Miley, an autopsy will be performed.
