The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred Wednesday morning at around 9:35a.m. The accident occurred on Interstate 75, north bound, approximately 1 mile north of Hartley Bridge Road.
Witnesses stated that a black colored 2000 Honda Accord was against the guard rail, on the left side of the interstate. The vehicle was facing south. The driver of the vehicle was standing outside of the vehicle, in the emergency lane.
A grey colored 2006 Ford Mustang, driven by 26 year old Gary Cumming from Houston County, was traveling north on Interstate 75. The driver of the Ford Mustang saw the male standing outside of his vehicle. He moved over to the right lane of the interstate and crossed over a patch of ice that was on the roadway. The driver of the mustang lost control of his vehicle, causing him to spin out of control. The mustang crossed over the middle and left lanes. The Mustang hit the guardrail as it was facing south. The vehicle rolled backwards, striking the man who was standing outside of the Honda and continued to roll backwards, striking the Honda Accord. Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Leon Jones.
Both the male driver and passenger of the Honda were fatally wounded. The names of the fatality victims will not be released until the next of kin has been notified. Cummings was reported to be uninjured. No one else was injured during this accident.
