The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of a fatal traffic accident that occurred on Interstate 75, just north of Bass Rd. The accident took place at around 1:32p.m., Sunday.  According to witness statements, a 20-year-old Alpharetta woman, (driver), was traveling north on interstate 75 in a Pontiac Grand Am.  The witness stated that after the Grand Am passed the Bass Road overpass, the driver of the vehicle lost control and ran off of the roadway. The vehicle went down an embankment and traveled back up the other side until the vehicle hit a tree, and rolled over.

Both the driver and passenger of the Pontiac Grand Am were transported to the Medical Center Navicent Health. The driver was pronounced dead at the hospital. The passenger, a 20- year- old from Decatur, Ga. is listed to be in stable condition. No one else was injured in this single vehicle accident.

The name of the driver cannot be released until the next of kin has been notified.
