The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal traffic accident involving a pedestrian. It was reported that around 7:15p.m. Wednesday evening an empty log truck was traveling north in the 3100 block of Broadway. The driver of the log truck, 44 year old Jerry Eugene Lollar of Covington, stated that a man was standing in the left lane of travel. He attempted to avoid hitting the man by braking, but was unsuccessful. The impact of the accident knocked the pedestrian into the south bound lanes of travel. A green Honda Accord, driven by 42 year old Ronnie Dioun Morgan of Thomaston, was traveling south on Broadway. It was reported that Morgan did not see the pedestrian and ran over him, dragging him several feet. No one has been charged. This fatal accident is under investigation.
The pedestrian is identified to be 55 year old Douglas Michael Oliver. Oliver is believed to be homeless according to Coroner Leon Jones. The coroner is asking for any family members to please contact Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley at 478-256-6714.
This section of Broadway is expected to reopen at around 11:00p.m. Wednesday night.
