The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Fatal Traffic Accident that occurred on Interstate 475 North, under the Zebulon Road overpass. The call came into the Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 Center at 12:13 p.m., Friday. It was reported that a construction vehicle had been overturned.
Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Deputies alongside the Macon Bibb Fire Department responded to the scene. Witnesses reported that a Kenworth Construction Vehicle was traveling north on Interstate 475. The mounted drill of the vehicle was extended upwards. As the driver of the vehicle attempted to travel under the Zebulon Road overpass, the vehicle’s extended equipment struck the overpass. The Construction vehicle was overturned. The driver was extracted from the vehicle and provided medical treatment. The 39-year-old male was then transported to Atrium Navicent Health by ambulance. According to Medical Staff, the victim succumbed to his injuries. His identity will not be released at this time.
Three other vehicles traveling east on the Zebulon Road overpass sustained minor damage from debris due to the accident. No one else was injured.
