The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred on I-16wb at the I-75 split, just before 08:00pm Monday evening. It was reported that 46yr old James Richard Montgomery II of Macon was traveling west on I-16 crossing over the Ocmulgee River Bridge when he lost control of his 2002 Suzuki motorcycle. Montgomery struck the guardrail of the bridge. Montgomery was pronounced deceased on scene by the Bibb County Coroner’s Office personnel. Next of kin has been notified. No one else was injured during the accident.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is asking travelers to avoid the area until the wreck is cleared. I-16 W/B is closed from exit two all the way to the I-75 split. While the construction is taking place at the I-16 and I-75 interchange it is recommended that everyone slow down and pay extra attention. The posted speed limit in the area is 50mph but due to the constant rearrangement of the lanes of travel it is recommended that you slow down to 45mph for safety.
