Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to Amerson Water Park just before 6:00p.m. Sunday afternoon in reference to a possible drowning. It was reported that a male was in the river near one of the picnic areas of the park when he slipped off of a float, going under water. The male was not seen coming back up to the surface. He was at the park with family and friends when the incident occurred.

When deputies arrived, a Bibb County Deputy that was working off-duty at the park, some employees with the park and others had already gone into the water trying to search for the victim. Firefighters with the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department, DNR Rangers and a helicopter from the Georgia State Patrol also responded to the scene to assist with the search. At around 8:19p.m., divers with the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department’s Dive Team found the victim who was identified as 17 year old Marcos Mendez Perez of Macon.
