Bibb County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies conducted a traffic stop on Mulberry Street at around 11:42 p.m., Thursday night.

During the traffic stop, deputies determined that the driver may have been impaired and called for back-up. Bibb County Sheriff’s Office HEAT Units arrived, and deputies began a field sobriety test on the driver. 

While conducting the field sobriety test, the passenger, 28-year-old Nicolson Simon, jumped into the driver’s side of the vehicle and sped off.

Deputies pursed Simon as he attempted to elude them by fleeing from Mulberry Street to 2nd Street, and then onto Gray Highway. Simon lost control of the vehicle on Gray Highway at its intersection with 2nd Street, hitting an embankment and crashing the vehicle. Simon then jumped out of the vehicle and led deputies on a brief foot pursuit.  Deputies were able to locate and arrest Simon, ending the pursuit.

Simon was checked by EMT’s and transported to Atrium Health Navicent to be treated for any possible injuries.

Simon was later transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center where he and the original driver,23-year-old Jasmine Janvier, are currently in custody.

Simon is held for the following charges: (DUI) Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Willful Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officers, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer (Felony), Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, (2) Traffic Offences, and Giving a False Name, Address, or Birthdate to a Law Enforcement Officer. Simon was also wanted for (2) unrelated warrants, one of the warrants is out of Baldwin County and the other out of Florida. He currently does not have a bond.

Janvier is being currently held for the charge of (DUI) Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, and has a bond in the amount of $1,850.00.
