This morning at around 5:45AM Bibb Sheriff’s Deputy Mitchell Tharpe was arrested for Driving under the influence of alcohol by a Georgia State Patrol Trooper. The incident occurred near the intersection of Riverside Drive and Spring Street.

 

It was reported that the trooper was conducting a traffic stop with a motorist when Tharpe drove up in his patrol vehicle to assist the motorist. Tharpe was not on duty at the time of the incident. Tharpe displayed signs of being intoxicated and was given a field sobriety test at the scene. Tharpe was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. He was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Complex and booked on the charge. Bond is set at $1,850.00.

 

Tharpe is suspended from duty at the Bibb Sheriff’s Office pending an internal investigation.
