This morning at around 11:30AM Bibb Sheriff’s Deputy Nathaniel Woodard was arrested for simple battery and violation of oath of office,  stemming from an incident that occurred on August 10, 2014 where he and other deputies responded to a domestic incident involving 38 year old Devasco Holly of Macon. During this incident it was discovered that Woodard kicked Mr. Holly in the chest while he was handcuffed.

Internal Affairs Investigators were already looking into the events surrounding Mr. Holly’s arrest when in July of this year they received a video depicting the kicking incident. The internal investigation continued to the point that Woodard was subsequently charged with simple battery and violation of oath of office.  Woodard was booked into the Bibb County Law Enforcement Complex on the charges. He has a bond of $2,840.00.

Woodard was also found to be in violation of the following policies of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office; unbecoming conduct, conformance of laws, treatment of persons in custody and use of force. Woodard was terminated as an employee with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office by Sheriff David Davis this afternoon. Woodard was hired in February of 2011 as a Macon Police Officer prior to consolidation. His present assignment was in the patrol division.

Sheriff David Davis said, “Deputies are expected to enforce the law, not break it. I will not tolerate this blatant disregard for the oath we all took to uphold.”
