The Bibb County Sheriff’s Property Crimes Division arrested 32 year old Casey Goodwin on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at around 8:00 p.m. Goodwin is charged with 4 counts of theft by taking (mail), financial transaction card theft, kidnapping, and battery-family violence. The US Postal Inspection Service, Peach County Sheriff’s Office and Warner Robins Police Department also assisted in the case.
Deputies with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Hartley Bridge Road area on Thursday, May 19, 2016 in reference to people in a vehicle seen removing mail from mailboxes. Deputies located the vehicle they were given a description of and made a traffic stop on the vehicle. In the vehicle was a white male, identified as Goodwin and a white female, who investigators later determined was a victim in the incident.
During the investigation and interviews with Goodwin and the female it was discovered that Goodwin assaulted the female and forced her to drive him to commit the thefts. Goodwin is also thought to be responsible for previous thefts similar to the ones that occurred on Thursday. Goodwin took and used financial transaction cards and checks taken from mailboxes. In connection with the arrest, a search warrant was also conducted at Goodwin’s address in Byron Georgia. Mail was also stolen from other surrounding areas outside of Bibb County. An estimated 1000 articles of mail and documents were recovered during the search.
Goodwin was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center where he remains with a bond set at $16,810.00. He also has a hold placed by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
