The Bibb County Sheriff’s Outreach Section is offering a program for parents and children called “Guiding Good Choices”.  The program offers a free course for parents who want to improve communication and awareness with their children between the ages of 9 and 16 years old. The primary goal of Guiding Good Choices is to increase family involvement that is rewarding and enhances parent-child bonds.  The program is offered in a series of sessions, each designed to focus on one of five areas. The program begins with increasing parents’ knowledge of the risk factors associated with drug abuse. It then focuses on teaching parents the skills that help mitigate these risk factors, such as how to clearly communicate expectations for behavior, how to reduce family conflict, and how to encourage the expression of positive feelings and love. One of the sessions teaches both parents and children various ways to resist peer and social pressures that engage in inappropriate behavior.

The first class begins Thursday, September 28, 2017 and spaces are still available. For more information contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Outreach Section at 478-803-2703. You can register for the course at www.bcsoggc.ga.
