Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call of a person struck in the arm by a bullet from a gunshot Monday night at around 10:30 p.m. at 586 Willingham Court.  It was reported that 37 year old Arisa Curtis, of Macon was sitting in the front yard of this address when a stray bullet came from out of the sky, striking her left arm. It is not known where the bullet came from. The round was possibly from someone firing a gun into the air. Curtis received a graze wound on her arm. She was treated for the injury at the Coliseum Hospital and later released.

Bibb Sheriff David Davis said, “A bullet fired into the air, must come down, often at nearly the same velocity as when it left the gun barrel. You don’t want to leave a celebration cuffed in the back of a patrol car, headed to jail.  Celebrating with gunfire is not only dangerous, it is illegal, can lead to innocent deaths and injury and can also cause damage to property.  The victim this weekend was lucky, if the bullet had of landed a few inches over, her injury may have been a lot more serious, even fatal!”

This incident is under investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
