The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suspicious device that was believed to be possibly explosive at 9:35 a.m., in the 2100 block of Jeffersonville Road.
It was reported that construction workers dug up an old grenade and alerted authorities.
Bibb Sheriff’s deputies closed off the Jeffersonville Road area to any vehicle or foot traffic, while the Bibb Sheriff’s Bomb Disposal Unit carefully examined and removed the old military style grenade. It was believed that the grenade was possibly a left-over ordinance from former Camp Wheeler.
The area was deemed safe, and Jeffersonville Road was opened back up at approximately 10:30 a.m.
