The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a suspicious person at 4970 Harrison Road, the Holiday Inn Express , just after 10:21pm. It was reported that a white male was throwing rocks at hotel windows. When deputies arrived on scene they notice a dark in color Chevy truck speeding out of the parking lot with no headlights. Deputies initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle declined to stop and ran a red light turning onto Eisenhower and then onto the northbound I475 ramp. The driver of the truck still declined to stop and fled deputies, reaching speeds of 80 mph. When the chase reached just before Forsyth, Monroe County Sheriff’s office took over the pursuit. For public safety Monroe County deputies perform a pit maneuver to stop the vehicle which speeds reached 110mph. The driver of the truck was identified as 31 year old; Edward Smith of Dunwoody Ga. Smith was taken into custody. Deputies recovered two firearms from the vehicle, one was reported stolen. Smith was transported to the Navicent Health Center for treatment for his injuries he sustained during the accident. It was discovered that Smith had valid warrants out of multiple counties for burglary and gun charges. Smith is listed in stable condition at the hospital and will be taken into custody after he is released.
