On Wednesday, May 10, 2017 Bibb County Sheriff’s Property Crimes Investigators arrested 55 year old John Murphy Owens III on the charge of Theft By Conversion.
Owens was arrested through the investigation conducted on an incident reported October 28, 2016.
It was reported that Owens had formed a partnership with a Terry Stapleton to rescue dogs. Stapleton said she was being manipulated by Owens in believing that all donation money they received would be sent with the rescue dog to the new owner. Stapleton suspected that Owens was not turning all the money in due to clients calling and asking about the money.
The incident remains under investigation and investigators ask that anyone that has made a donation to John Murphy Owens III for rescue animals to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751 -7500.
