On Thursday, October 6, 2016 the Bibb County Sheriff’s Financial Crimes Unit arrested 50 year old Dorothy McCranie for 1st degree forgery, 4th degree forgery and felony theft by taking.

On August 29, 2016 Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to Heritage Elementary School in reference to money missing from the PTO account.  It was reported at the time that McCranie resigned from the school in August of this year. The principle of Heritage Elementary went through the records that McCranie had turned over to her and found money missing.

During the investigation it was discovered that while serving as PTO President for Heritage Elementary School from 2015 to 2016, McCranie took money from the PTO account exceeding $21,500.00 and used the money for her own gain and personal use. During a search warrant conducted at the residence of McCranie, documents and records were recovered that are associated with the investigation.

McCranie was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center and booked on the charges listed above. Her bond is set at $98,500.00. McCranie remains in the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.
