Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested an auto theft suspect after a brief vehicle chase today. It was reported that Bibb Sheriff’s Deputy Kent spotted a vehicle on Hartley Bridge Road that had been given out in a bolo as stolen.

 

 

Just after 5:00 p.m. Deputy Kent attempted to stop the 2012 silver Chevrolet Impala after verifying it was stolen. The driver of the Impala refused to stop, leading Deputy Kent on a brief vehicle pursuit. The pursuit ended in the 5000 block of Houston Road at Oak Grove Mobile Home Park. Bibb Sheriff’s Deputies apprehended the driver of the stolen vehicle. He was identified as 25 year old Richard Harold Varner of Juliette Georgia. Two other passengers were in the vehicle with Varner. One passenger, a male, fled the scene on foot and his identity is unknown at this time. The other passenger is a female. She was detained and turned over to a parent.

 

Varner was transported to the Bibb Sheriff’s Property Investigations Office. He was charged with theft by receiving stolen property, fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, criminal use of an article (firearm) with an altered ID number, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and a parole violation. Varner also has a hold placed on him for the Jones County Sheriff’s Office. He was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Complex where he currently remains. There is no bond for Varner.
