Bibb County Sheriff’s Civilian Employee Arrested

Bibb County Sheriff’s Property Investigators arrested Samantha Hardy Friday morning for theft of lost or mislaid property. Hardy is a civilian employee at the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office assigned to the Central Records Division.

Bibb County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies were dispatched to Express Package located at 701 Eisenhower Parkway just after 5:00PM Thursday afternoon. Deputies met with the male victim who reported that on Monday, March 21, 2016 at around 8:40PM he had left his wallet accidentally at the store. He contacted the store owner to inquire about his wallet and also asked to see the video surveillance. The victim reported that the store owner would not let him look at the video and told him he would need to return with the police. The owner did return the wallet to the victim minus the money the victim stated was missing.

The victim decided to contact the sheriff’s office on Thursday afternoon to report the incident.  The store owner told the deputy that he knew the person that took the money and that she worked at the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. The store owner played the video back for the deputy. In the surveillance video was the suspect Hardy, identified by the store owner. She was also wearing a sweater with Bibb Sheriff’s Patches on it. Hardy opened the wallet which was lying on the counter of the store and removed what appeared to be money out of the wallet, paying for some merchandise. There appeared to be another female with Hardy who has not been identified at this time.

Bibb County Sheriff’s Investigators were notified and brought Hardy in for questioning about the incident. She was charged with theft of lost or mislaid property. She was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center and booked on the charges.  Bond was set at $650.00. She was released on bond.

An internal investigation was also conducted with our Internal Affairs Division. Hardy was found to be in violation of the following policies; Violation of Rules, Unbecoming Conduct and Conformance to Laws. Sheriff David Davis terminated her employment with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office this afternoon.
