Bibb County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies arrested a 17-year-old male suspect in connection with a commercial armed robbery attempt of the Mercer Food Mart, located at 3737 Mercer University Drive.

It was reported that Javon Tyrek Blackshear was inside the convenience store attempting to play on a gambling machine. When the store employee asked Blackshear for identification, Blackshear brandished a handgun, and demanded cash from the register. The store employee then locked himself behind a protective plexiglass counter. After Blackshear’s attempt was unsuccessful, he fled the store on foot. No one was injured in the incident.

Deputies arrived on the scene and were given a description of Blackshear. Deputes canvassed the area and located Blackshear in the 1600 block of N. Atwood Drive. Deputies also recovered a toy handgun that was used in the armed robbery attempt. Blackshear was transported to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Center and is being held without bond for the charge of Armed Robbery.
