Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call of an armed robbery and carjacking just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday night. Deputies were requested to meet the victim at 3311 Mercer University Drive. When deputies arrived they met with the victim and some passerby’s that had stopped to assist the victim.
It was reported that the 48 year old female victim was in the back parking lot of the American Red Cross at 3755 Bloomfield Road when two males came up to her armed with guns and made her get into the trunk of her vehicle. The victim felt the vehicle moving after she was put in the trunk. She was able to open the trunk and jumped out of the vehicle at some point, where she ended up at the address on Mercer University Drive. The suspects had taken her vehicle and purse. She was taken to the Navicent Health Hospital and treated for minor injuries she sustained. A lookout was placed on the victim’s 2013 Dodge Avenger.
Just before 3:00 a.m. Monday morning, Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies were sent to the area of Columbus Road and Harrison Road where the victim’s vehicle was spotted. Deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle but the driver refused to stop. The vehicle was pursued into the Crystal Lake Apartments where the suspects ran from the vehicle. One of the suspects was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. He was identified as 24 year old Marquethus Flowers. He was transported to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigative Division for questioning. Flowers was charged with Hijacking of a Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Assault and Kidnapping. He also had warrants on other unrelated charges for Robbery, Cruelty to Children, Battery (Family Violence), Criminal Trespass, Obstructing or Hindering Persons Making Emergency Telephone Call and Aggravated Assault.
