The Bibb County Financial Crimes Unit served a search warrant at an apartment rented by 39-year-old Thomas Onyebuchi Hasstrup, located at 200 Charter Lane on April 7, 2014. The search warrant was served as a result of an Identity Theft investigation. According to investigators, Hasstrup was arrested in connection to the fraudulent theft of identities from multiple victims across the United States.

During the search warrant investigators seized a large quantity of counterfeit checks containing account information from several commercial accounts and other victims. The counterfeit checks were written out and contained a negotiated value of an excess of $84,000.00.

Investigators also seized printers, computer equipment, check stock (used in the fraudulent production of the counterfeit checks), and several cell phones.

Hasstrup was charged with (2) counts of Identity Theft and was released on a bond of $5,900.00.

Investigators continued to investigate the theft and determined that additional checks on these accounts were written and totaled in excess of over $100,000.00.

Warrants were issued for Hasstrup and he turned himself over to the Sheriff’s Office, on April 14, 2015 for the charges of (4cts) of Forgery in the 3rd Degree.  Hasstrup was released from the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center after posting a $7,400.00 bond.
