The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit and US Marshals Southeastern Regional Fugitive Task Force made an arrest today in the Homicide of 19 year old Travaris Veal. Veal was fatally shot on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Macon Garden Apartments located at 3601 Mercer University Drive.

Investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Gang Unit,  with assistance of the Criminal Investigations Division, followed up on information on the case leading them to the arrest of 25 year old, Karlos Middlebrooks Cornelius, from Macon. Cornelius was arrested at a location in South Macon at around 3:45p.m. this afternoon , without incident.

Fatal Shooting Investigation

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting incident that occurred at around 7:30p.m. Thursday night at the Macon Garden Apartments, located at 3601 Mercer University Drive. It was reported that two men were on the front porch of building #20 when a white S.U.V. pulled into the parking lot. Occupants inside of the vehicle began to shoot at the two men and then fled the scene.

Travaris Veal, age 19 from Macon was shot in the left shoulder area. He was pronounced dead at the Navicent Health Center. Coroner Leon Jones has notified the next of kin.

Terry Brown, age 23 from Macon was shot in his right and left legs. He is listed to be in stable condition at a local hospital.

The suspect vehicle is possibly a white Ford Expedition or Ford Explorer. The vehicle was occupied by 3 to 4 black male suspects. No further description was available. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
